Program

Arts Matter is an eight-week, in-school art program designed for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Arts Matter instructors teach weekly lessons right in the classroom and incorporate the introduction of great works of art with hands-on art making that's educational, engaging and fun. Students learn the elements, concepts and skills involved in the creation of art and the application to social studies, language and mathematics. Arts Matter also works with classroom teachers, helping them incorporate art into the core curriculum by providing lesson plans, children's art books and materials. The Arts Matter curriculum aligns with California Visual and Performing Arts standards (VAPA) and other curricula areas, including Language, Social Studies and Mathematics.

The program is also available for special education classes and is offered to elementary schools from October through May.

For schools that have an active parent organization and available time, Arts Matter will train parents to facilitate the program themselves.
