Today we chat with Star Montana, Teaching Artist for ArtsMatter at The LA Promise Fund.

I am a documentary photographer named Star and I like to describe my art in long conversations. I love to have long talks.

Why do you do this work? What do you love about it?  I love being a Teacher connected to Art. I love being able to bring Art to LAUSD, I know how it feels not have art in that district.

What's one of your favorite memories during your work for the LA Promise Fund?  I love chatting being able to be back in the classroom with the kids even if through our screens, I am just happy we are all trying to make art through a Pandemic.

When you were a teenager, what did you want to do in life? I always wanted to be an Artist even when I was a little girl. I am really happy I am able to be an Artist and a Teacher.

If you could give your teenage self some advice, what would it be? I would tell myself everything is going to be okay.

FIRE ROUND!

What are three fun facts about you?

  • I love water. I love spending time next rivers and the ocean.

  • I have been obsessed with cooking since I was a little girl.

  • I am really close to my family and I love spending time with them.

What artist(s) inspires you and why? My favorite artists are Photographer Joseph Rodriguez, Latoya Ruby Frazier, and Van Gogh.

What is the one thing you are sure to do when we are on the other side of this Pandemic?  I want to travel. I was supposed to travel to a few states this year and all that was cancelled. I miss traveling so much.
